Sarah Gallifent Wins Top Award in RHS Photographic Competition. More...
Sarah Gallifent has been crowned the RHS Photographer of the Year 2007, beating off competition from nearly 4000 entries from across the UK and around the world. Sarah entered her striking image of Phormium 'Alison Blackman', taken at RHS Garden Rosemoor, in the RHS Photographic Competition, which is supported by the Medici Society. This year it took the panel of judges two days to decide on the 19 winning photographs in the six competition categories (plant portrait, close-up, tree or shrub, garden view, wildlife in the garden and people in the garden), and they were all taken aback by the outstanding quality of images.
Judge Tim Sandall commenting on Sarah's winning image said
“This image is abstract perfection - it makes such a bold statement and is so brave! It really grabs you with its graphic quality. This is the most outstanding photo that we've seen and our decision to award Sarah with the prize of RHS Photographer of the Year was completely unanimous. It stood out against so many other fantastic prints because it is incredibly creative and creates an abstract form that generates a stunning piece of art.'
